LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police are asking for a ban on bulky bags and strollers during major events on the Strip for public safety reasons. The Las Vegas Sun reports that police had asked visitors ahead of the Las Vegas Strip's New Year's Eve bash to leave the items at home after deadly attacks in Paris and San Bernardino. But police had no way of enforcing the ban at the time. So yesterday Clark County commissioners were asked to adopt an ordinance prohibiting strollers and bags larger than 8 inches by 6 inches.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Democratic former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto has formally entered the race for U.S. Senate nearly a year after announcing she'd run. Cortez Masto is aiming to replace longtime Democratic Sen. Harry Reid, who is not seeking a sixth term representing Nevada and is endorsing her to be his successor. Cortez Masto served two terms as the state's top prosecutor.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The state of Nevada has agreed to new training and reporting requirements to settle a federal lawsuit accusing state public assistance offices of failing to do enough to help low-income clients register to vote. Among other things, the deal requires the secretary of state to appoint a statewide coordinator to ensure the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services is complying with the National Voter Registration Act.

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — The daughter of a Nevada ghost-hunting couple killed last year in a murder-suicide pleaded guilty to a battery charge related to previous assaults involving herself, her parents and her mother's friend. Mark Constantino and his wife, Debra, appeared on "Ghost Adventures" before he kidnapped and killed her in September. Their daughter, Raquel Constantino, must complete anger management and alcohol counseling.
