CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — An Emmett man has pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing his girlfriend at their Nampa home.
KTVB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1QOQTtR ) that 23-year-old Brandon Shaw on Wednesday pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of 23-year-old Chelsey Malone. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dropped additional charges of assault with intent to commit a serious felony, burglary and weapons enhancements.
Prosecutors say Shaw stabbed Malone several times outside her home while trying to run from him on Nov. 18. Shaw told police that he tried to fire a rifle at her but the weapon did not discharge. As Malone fled, he chased after her and stabbed her with two kitchen knives.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 24. Prosecutors had previously said they intended to seek the death penalty.
