GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Grand Forks Central High School teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with an underage student has posted $500 bond and been released from jail.
Police allege that 41-year-old James Whalen, of Grand Forks, engaged in sex acts with the teenager at the school and in his home between November and February.
Whalen resigned on Tuesday. He made his initial court appearance on Thursday but did not enter pleas to two counts of corruption of a minor. A judge set bond at $5,000, with Whalen needing to post 10 percent. He's due back in court on April 6.
Whalen had joined the Grand Forks school system as a science teacher in August 1998.
