EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A procession of law enforcement officers has escorted the body of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to a funeral home in El Paso, Texas, where officials are waiting to hear whether an autopsy will be performed. The procession traveled more than three hours from the West Texas resort ranch where Scalia was found dead in his room yesterday. The funeral home says tentative plans call for Scalia's body to be flown back home to his family in a northern Virginia suburb on Tuesday.
CLARKSDALE, Miss. (AP) — Authorities in northwestern Mississippi say an officer has been shot while investigating a robbery. Clarksdale Mayor Bill Luckett tells WMC-TV that Officer Derrick Couch was found on the street outside a convenience store that had been robbed late yesterday by two masked men. The report said the officer was hospitalized after being shot in the head. Police have released a video of two possible suspects.
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Officials say the number of students at a Pennsylvania college reporting symptoms of a stomach illness has now topped 200, but the source of the ailment remains a mystery. Ursinus (ur-SY'-nuhs) College closed its dining hall after students began complaining of vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain Tuesday night, but it was reopened after an inspection. The university canceled classes Thursday and Friday but plans to resume them tomorrow.
NEW YORK (AP) — From cold, to snow. A winter storm that's now bringing snow to the Midwest is on its way to the East, which is shivering through a deep freeze. Forecasters say the system will bring warmer temperatures but more precipitation. Parts of Kentucky and Tennessee could get 5 or 6 inches of snow before it turns to rain, while the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast could see icy conditions tomorrow.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — "Deadpool" has taken the box office by storm, annihilating records with an estimated $135 million from its first three days in theaters. That makes it the biggest R-rated opening ever, surpassing "The Matrix Reloaded," which opened to $91.8 million in May of 2003. Last weekend's No. 1 film, "Kung Fu Panda," drops to No. 2 with just $19.6 million. "How to Be Single" opened in third place with $18.8 million.
