LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Gov. Asa Hutchinson has named a former candidate for governor and a lawyer who was once a University of Arkansas cheerleader to the school's board of trustees.

Sheffield Nelson's appointment will run until 2025, and Kelly Eichler's runs until 2026.

Nelson was the Republican nominee for governor in 1990 and 1994. He served previously on the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and is a former chairman, president and chief executive officer of Arkla, the natural gas utility. He holds a law degree from the university.

Eichler has a law degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and has worked as a deputy prosecutor and a special judge. She is Hutchinson's policy director. Her great grandfather, Sy Campbell, graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1910.
