LAS VEGAS (AP) — Prosecutors are due to air evidence today in the murder case of a woman who told police she shot her husband dead on Christmas Eve in a downtown Las Vegas hotel room because he was abusing her. Maria Andrea Escalante also faces child abuse charges because police say David Cordova was killed while the couple's 9-year-old son was in the room. The boy wasn't hurt.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The entertainer Flavor Flav is facing a Las Vegas judge today on misdemeanor DUI, speeding and marijuana possession charges stemming from a vehicle stop last May. The Nevada Highway Patrol says the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee was clocked going 87 mph in a 65-mph zone.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A group opposed to Nevada's new Education Savings Account program says it shouldn't have to post a quarter-million-dollar bond to cover the costs of putting the program on hold. Lawyers for six public school families have filed a motion opposing Treasurer Dan Schwartz's request for the bond. Schwartz wanted to access the money if courts eventually overturn a hold that a Carson City judge placed on the program.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Feedback from students in the Clark County School District is helping improve lunches so that kids will actually eat them. The Las Vegas Sun reports that the district wants to know how meals will be received before thousands of lunches end up in school trash cans. Fewer students have been eating school lunches since federal nutrition guidelines were updated to make lunches healthier.
