NATRONA HEIGHTS, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania authorities say a man aiming a gun at his girlfriend during an alcohol-fueled fight accidentally shot a dog instead.

State police say the shooting occurred at Thomas Callen Jr.'s home in Fawn Township early Tuesday.

Authorities say Callen and his girlfriend argued after returning home from several bars.

Police say the woman went to bed with the dog's head resting on hers. Police say when Callen entered the room, he told the woman, "I'll kill you" before he fired, hitting the dog in the head. The woman says Callen told her, "I meant it for you."

The 59-year-old Callen has been jailed on charges including attempted homicide, aggravated assault and cruelty to animals. He doesn't have an attorney.

It's not clear what happened to the dog.
