LOGAN, Utah (AP) — The Davis County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting at the Cache County jail that injured an inmate.
KUTV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1NOEAuW ) that Chris Simpson says jail officers shot him with a less-lethal rifle when he refused to move into his cell. He admits he was under the influence of prescription medications when Cache County authorities arrested him on Jan. 16.
A less-lethal rifle fires projectiles that have been designed to break up on impact, reducing risk of penetrating injuries.
Chief Deputy Matt Bilodeau says the officer involved is still on active duty, but has been removed from the position at the jail.
The Cache County District Attorney will review the Davis County investigators' report and decide if any violations were made.
