RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Washoe County School District will receive $1 million each year for the next 13 years to help fund programs to close gaps they may impede student success.

Superintendent Traci Davis said during the annual State of Education address on Monday that the recurring gift from the Stacie Mathewson foundation is the largest donation the district has ever received.

The money will go toward mental health, substance abuse, and other programs that help students overcome outside obstacles.

During her address Davis also said the district is facing overcrowding and underfunding infrastructure. Concerns over school construction and repairs will be addressed by a ballot question later this year.
