OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Glass artist Dale Chihuly is creating an installation to be the centerpiece of a program at an Omaha cancer center slated to be opened in 2017.
The Omaha World-Herald (http://bit.ly/1NLFf01 ) reports the artist is creating the Chihuly Sanctuary for the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. The sanctuary will be a greenhouse-like structure that flows out from the cancer center and provides views of an exterior healing garden. The enclosure of about 6,000 square feet will feature five distinct areas, including its own indoor garden of colorful glass flowers.
Chihuly hopes the sanctuary will be a gathering spot for patients who aren't able to go outside and enjoy the garden.
The $323 million Buffett Cancer Center is a collaboration between the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine.
