ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — A witness says members of the Islamic Extremist group Boko Haram torched huts, burning children inside to death. The witness was a survivor hidden in a tree who says he watched the horror of the latest attack by Nigeria' s homegrown Islamic extremists. Other witnesses say scores of charred corpses and bodies with bullet wounds litter the streets from last night's attack in a village near Maiduguri, the biggest city in the northeast.
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says it helped arrest two dozen members of the Sinaloa Cartel during a cross-border operation with the Mexican government. The sting targeted alleged members of the drug cartel operating along the Mexico-Arizona border. Assault-type weapons and hundreds of pounds of drugs were also seized on Friday.
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens says the next step is to fix the security lapses that led to the escape of three dangerous inmates. The last two have been recaptured after eight days on the run from the maximum-security facility. Part of the escape involved sawing through bars.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Sen. Marco Rubio is calling recent attacks by fellow senator and Republican presidential rival Ted Cruz a positive sign ahead of tomorrow's Iowa caucuses. Rubio says when people start attacking you, it's because you're doing something right. Rubio has been polling in third place behind Donald Trump and Cruz. Democrat Bernie Sanders is pleading with younger supporters to put him over the top against rival Hillary Clinton.
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Chalk up another major men's tennis title for Novak Djokovic (NOH'-vak JOH'-kuh-vich). He maintained his perfect streak in six Australian Open finals with a 6-1, 7-5, 7-6 (3) victory today that consigned Andy Murray to a fifth defeat in championship deciders at Melbourne Park. Djokovic equaled Roy Emerson's long-standing record of six Australian Open titles.
