ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — A St. George physician has been found guilty of handing out drugs as payment to people who then turned around and resold them.
The Spectrum newspaper in St. George reports (http://bit.ly/1m5d8CA) that jurors in federal court convicted 60-year-old Simmon Lee Wilcox on Thursday of participating in a conspiracy to illegally distribute oxycodone painkillers and illegally selling or dispensing drugs.
However, he was found not guilty on three counts of deliberately aiding others' efforts to possess hydrocodone painkillers with the intent to resell them.
Prosecutors say Wilcox knowingly wrote hundreds of prescriptions for patients who used false identities at different pharmacies between July 2010 and March 2013.
He used prescriptions as payment for housecleaning, car repairs and even a puppy.
Wilcox is free from custody until his April 18 sentencing.
