PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police say it appears a woman killed her 85-year-old mother inside their New York home before killing herself inside a hotel room in Pennsylvania.

Police say 55-year-old Hannah Lilien was found dead in the Red Roof Inn early Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania's Cranberry Township. Police say she had self-inflicted wounds that didn't involve a gun. Other evidence in the room led investigators to contact Buffalo police to check on the welfare of her mother, Rose.

Rose Lilien was found dead about an hour later in the Buffalo home they shared.

Cranberry police say the deaths are being treated as a murder-suicide.

Cranberry Township is about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh and about 115 miles southwest of Buffalo.
