BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Many say Interior Secretary Sally Jewell's year-old wildfire strategy for a wide swath of sagebrush country in the West is turning out to be one of the most significant federal land policy changes in some 80 years. She directed federal resources for the first time to fight massive blazes in open sagebrush steppe that supports cattle ranching, recreation and wildlife, including the imperiled sage grouse.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An American pastor who was imprisoned for nearly four years in Iran is expected to return home to Boise today. The Idaho Statesman reports Saeed Abedini was one of four Americans released in Iran under a negotiated prisoner exchange on Jan. 16.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A measure that would allow students to use public funds at private schools passed its first hurdle today. The so-called Blaine Amendment would amend the constitution so that students could use public scholarships and grants at religious schools.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's top-earning individuals and businesses would get tax relief worth $22.6 million under a bill that has cleared a House committee. The legislation introduced by House Majority Leader Mike Moyle of Star would reduce the income tax for corporations and individuals in the top two tax brackets.
