NEW YORK (AP) — The East Coast could slowly get moving again today after a mammoth blizzard with hurricane-force winds and record-setting snowfall. Travel bans in New York and Baltimore are expected to be lifted, some very limited airline service may resume and suspended mass transit service may gingerly get rolling again. At least 18 deaths were blamed on the weather, resulting from car crashes, shoveling snow and hypothermia. The snow dropped 26.8 inches in Central Park, the second-most recorded since 1869.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Competing claims in the South China sea and China's activity there are high on U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's agenda today. He's leaving Saudi Arabia for Asia with stops in Laos, Cambodia and China. He's also urging China to take a firmer stand on North Korea's nuclear program after its recent bomb test.

NEW DELHI (AP) — French President Francois Hollande (frahn-SWAH' oh-LAWND') is on a mission to India to strengthen trade and strategic ties. Hollande landed in the northern city of Chandigarh where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join him at official engagements. During the three day visit, Hollande will push a multibillion-dollar deal for combat airplanes and closer cooperation on counterterrorism and clean energy.

BANGKOK (AP) — Thailand's Public Health Ministry says a man from Oman is in stable condition at an infectious disease center in Bangkok's outskirts after being diagnosed with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS. His children are also being quarantined. The authorities have identified 252 people the patient came into contact with, and are seeking 37 they consider at high risk. According to WHO, typical symptoms include fever, cough and shortness of breath. It can be fatal.

UNDATED (AP) — The AFC and NFC championship games are on tap today. New England and Tom Brady are in Denver to take on Peyton manning and the Broncos for the AFC title and a trip to Superbowl 50. In the NFC, Arizona will be in Carolina to take on the Panthers.
