NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A third St. Charles Parish teacher has been arrested on multiple charges of having sex with a student at school and at the teacher's home in Destrehan, just west of New Orleans.
It's the same school system where two teachers were arrested on similar charges in 2014.
Kimberly Naquin, 26, a teacher at Destrehan High School, was booked Thursday night with carnal knowledge of a juvenile and prohibited sexual conduct between a teacher and student.
Naquin also faces multiple counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile in Kenner.
Champagne says deputies learned Thursday morning from a relative of the female student about allegations regarding a sexual relationship between the student and a female teacher.
"After talking with family members, deputies traveled to Lafayette where Naquin was attending a conference and asked her to return to St. Charles Parish," Capt. Pat Yoes said. "She was questioned, arrested and booked into the parish jail," he said.
Yoes said the student told authorities the relationship began in September 2014 when she was 16 and continued to August 2015.
Yoes said Naquin lived in Kenner when the relationship began and later moved to Destrehan.
Naquin's bond has been set at $75,000. Jail records do not list an attorney for her.
Her arrest comes 15 months after two other Destrehan High teachers, Shelly Dufresne, 33, and Rachel Respess, 25, were accused of having sex with a 16-year-old male student.
Dufresne has pleaded guilty to a felony obscenity charge for having sex with the boy at a home in Montz, where she lives. She received a three-year deferred prison sentence, three years of probation and a $1,000 fine.
In Jefferson Parish, Dufresne has pleaded not guilty to having sex with the same student at Respess' apartment in Kenner. Respess, originally accused of engaging in group sex there with Dufresne and the student, was charged by prosecutors only with failing to report a felony. She has pleaded not guilty.
