BALTIMORE (AP) — Officials say a loaded handgun has been found in a fifth-grader's backpack at an East Baltimore elementary school.
The Baltimore Sun (http://bsun.md/1Oup0WR ) reports that police were called to William Paca Elementary School before the start of the school day on Thursday because a school administrator reported finding the gun in the student's bag
The school is located in the city's McElderry Park neighborhood.
Baltimore City Public Schools spokeswoman Edie House-Foster says the unidentified student was taken to the Department of Juvenile Services.
No further information was released.
