WASHINGTON, N.C. (AP) — No charges will be filed against former Washington County Schools Superintendent Joe Davis after a state audit critical of how more than $100,000 of federal and local money was spent while he was in charge of the district.

Washington County District Attorney Seth Edwards says in a news release that the state financial crimes unit did not find any clear evidence of embezzlement or other fraud by Davis or any member of the school board.

Davis is now the superintendent of the Ferguson-Florissant School District in Missouri.

The audit says Davis misspent nearly $16,000 in federal education funds and failed to provide a reason or receipts for $94,000 in travel, meals and merchandise.
