WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) — Three people have likely died from cold exposure in the Chicago area as temperatures dipped into the single digits this week.
Lake County officials tell the Daily Herald that 68-year-old Margaret A. Burke died Monday of hypothermia. Investigators say the heat in the woman's Ingleside-area home wasn't working when her body was found.
In Chicago, the Cook County medical examiner says 90-year-old Nellie Gordon died of hypothermia. Her body was found Monday in her driveway in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood.
And in McHenry County, Coroner Anne Majewski says a 70-year-old woman was found dead Monday outside her residence in the Chicago suburb of Woodstock with signs of cold exposure. The coroner says a preliminary examination found the woman died of hypothermia. The woman wasn't immediately identified pending notification of her family.
