HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) — Police say two Broward County schools were put on lockdown after a gun was found on campus.

Local media outlets report students at Apollo Middle School and Hollywood Park Elementary School remained locked inside their classrooms for over an hour Tuesday afternoon after authorities say students spotted two boys handling a gun.

Hollywood Police spokesman Jaime Hernandez says a school resource officer found the weapon under a portable classroom at the middle school.

The lockdown was lifted around 4:30 p.m.

Hernandez says one of the students showed the gun to another student and then hid it under one of the portable classrooms. Police say both students were charged with possession of a firearm on school property.

Authorities are investigating how the students obtained the gun.

No one was injured during the incident.
