WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama delivers his final State of the Union address tonight. The president plans to be upbeat, calling attention to his administration's successes. But a recent NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll indicates a majority of Americans don't share his optimism. On NBC's "Today" show, Obama acknowledges he could have done a better job of communicating with the public.

UNDATED (AP) — Arizona Sen. John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee in 2008, says he has no plans to endorse any of this year's GOP candidates. McCain tells MSNBC he's been wrong "in every prediction so far." As for Donald Trump, McCain says the "Kardashian effect" is partially what has made the former reality-TV star so popular among would-be voters.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — The mother of the fugitive teenager known for using a so-called "affluenza" defense in a fatal drunken-driving wreck is free from a Texas jail. A judge had sharply reduced Tonya Couch's $1 million bond for allegedly helping her son Ethan flee to Mexico to $75,000. Couch declined to speak with reporters as she left the Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The world's largest lottery jackpot is now even larger. The top prize for tomorrow night's Powerball drawing stands at $1.5 billion because of continuing strong ticket sales. The record-breaking jackpot could grow even more before the drawing. The odds of a single ticket matching all six numbers are one in 292.2 million.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A retired Springfield, Massachusetts, police officer has been charged with stealing about $400,000 from the department's evidence room. Kevin Burnham, a decorated and highly-respected officer on the force for 43 years, is free on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty to multiple larceny counts.
