SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A West Valley man has been sentenced to prison for following a woman into a Burger King bathroom in 2013 and violently raping her.
Justin Lloyd Martinez pleaded guilty to rape in November. On Monday, the 27-year-old begged District Judge Mark Kouris to sentence him to probation.
Martinez said he has no memory of the rape because he had been drinking alcohol and doing methamphetamine. He said the last thing he remembers is crashing his truck near the Burger King.
But Kouris gave him five years to life in prison, calling the crime egregious.
The victim was 20 years old and a junior at Brigham Young University at the time. She told Kouris she had never met Martinez, who attacked her as she was leaving a bathroom stall.
