RENO, Nev. (AP) — Officials have identified the 19-year-old man who died after being pulled from a frozen pond in Reno.
The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office says Sitanilei Tuihalangingie drowned at Paradise Park on Friday, but they are still awaiting toxicology results.
Firefighters had responded to reports of a person falling through the ice. Rescue crews say Tuihalangingie was in the water about half an hour before they were able to pull him out.
He was transferred to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
The victim had been with relatives when he walked on the ice and fell in. Crews had to get the man's family off the ice before they could attempt a rescue.
Police were still trying to determine why the group was out on the ice.
