BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's Democratic legislative leaders are criticizing Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's proposed budget plan, arguing that a 7.9 percent increase in education funding proposed by the Republican governor is insufficient to meet the needs of the 2016 economy. Senate Minority Leader Michelle Stennett, D-Ketchum, and House Minority Assistant Leader Mat Erpelding, D-Boise, also vowed that they would introduce legislation to raise minimum wage and to introduce a proposal for Medicaid expansion in the 2016 session.
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — The trial of a 16-year-old boy accused of killing his father and younger brother in Coeur d'Alene will begin this week. The Spokesman-Review reports that 16-year-old Eldon Gale Samuel III is being charged as an adult in the killing of his 46-year-old father, Eldon Samuel Jr., and his 13-year-old brother, Jonathan Samuel, on March 24, 2014.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A federal judge has ruled that Idaho's regulations for trapping furbearers in northern Idaho violate the Endangered Species Act by allowing the occasional capture of federally protected Canada lynx. The decision requires Idaho within 90 days to propose a plan that protects lynx in the Panhandle and Clearwater regions. The Idaho Department of Fish and game says it's reviewing the ruling.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State has hired Boise State offensive coordinator Eliah Drinkwitz to run the Wolfpack's attack and coach quarterbacks next year. The school announced Drinkwitz's hiring with a news release yesterday, roughly a week after the dismissal of Matt Canada — who has been hired as offensive coordinator at Pittsburgh.
