SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Hospitals aren't always in the cards for expecting mothers in Utah once the baby starts coming.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1UCagcb) that data from 11 of Utah's 29 counties shows that more than 75 babies were born on roadsides between 2010 and 2015.
Most of the reported roadway births happened in Salt Lake County, with 24 births since 2010, but Tooele County comes in second with 16.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce says the prominence of impromptu births in Tooele County may be because there is a lack of hospitals. Interstate 80 cuts across the county from the Nevada line. When you enter the state heading east, the nearest hospital is more than 100 miles away in Tooele.
