BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Three environmental groups have filed a lawsuit challenging a decision by the U.S. Forest Service that allows more than 100 helicopter landings this winter in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. Fish and Game officials say the flights are needed to put tracking collars on elk.

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — State wildlife biologists are puzzled over a mountain lion found with teeth growing out the side of its forehead in southeast Idaho near the Utah border. The Idaho State Journal reports an unidentified hunter caught the yearling cougar last week near Weston. Biologists speculate the animal's deformity may possibly be the result of either a conjoined twin that died in the womb or a rare tumor.

KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — Three more elk have died after apparently eating poisonous plants in central Idaho. The Idaho Mountain Express reports a conservation officer found yew material in the stomach of one of the elk. Yews are toxic to many animals and sometimes humans.

KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Power is planning to rebuild an aging transmission line that provides electricity to the Wood River Valley. The Idaho Mountain Express reports that the utility will rebuild the 59-mile-long line over the next two years. An environmental assessment released by the BLM last month indicates that the project will have little impact on the environment.
