ELKINS PARK, Pa. (AP) — Bill Cosby's next court appearance on a sex assault charge in Pennsylvania is being postponed.

A state courts spokesman says Wednesday that Cosby's Jan. 14 preliminary hearing will be rescheduled. Cosby's defense lawyers sought a postponement to give them more time to prepare.

At the hearing, the prosecutors will argue they have enough evidence to go to trial.

Cosby is free on $1 million bail. He was arraigned last week in a suburban Philadelphia courtroom on the charge, which was filed over a 2004 encounter at his Philadelphia-area home.

The 78-year-old comedian is charged with drugging and sexually assaulting a woman. Cosby has said under oath that he had consensual sexual contact with her.

Civil suits involving dozens of women have also been brought against him.
