LAS VEGAS (AP) — A preliminary hearing was postponed for a 38-year-old man accused of pulling a gun and shooting a veteran Las Vegas police officer during what investigators characterized as a chance encounter in an apartment complex.

Defense attorney Kyle Cottner says his client plans to plead not guilty.
Police say 52-year-old Officer Gregory Sedminik is expected to make a full recovery after surgery for wounds to his arm and upper torso stemming from the Dec. 17 shooting south of the Las Vegas Strip.
Fox was arrested several hours later at a golf course community several miles away.
