NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A state judge says the parents of a former private school student who allegedly had a sexual relationship with her teacher cannot sue the school for damages.
The parents had filed their suit after their daughter turned 18, claiming the Morristown-Beard School should be held responsible for negligence.
But in a ruling issued late last month, the judge found the daughter is the only party who can sue on her behalf since she's now an adult. The daughter is estranged from her parents and wasn't involved in their suit.
The teacher allegedly began a sexual relationship with the girl during her senior year at the prep school in 2012. She didn't physically attend school at the end of her senior year, partly due to rumors about the alleged relationship.
