WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Police in Wilmington have identified a 14-year-old boy as the victim of the city's first homicide in 2016.
Police said in a news release that Aljhean Thomas Williams of Wilmington died at the scene of the Sunday evening shooting. Officers found Williams lying in the street.
Lt. Rodney Dawson says investigators are following up several leads, but that no arrests have been made.
New Hanover County Schools spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum says Williams was a ninth-grader at Mosley Performance Learning Center in the Pathways Program. He transferred from Laney High School to Mosley in November. The Pathways Program is for middle and high school students who have been long-term suspended from their regular school. It allows them to continue their studies while in the program.
