CHISINAU, Moldova (AP) — Moldovan police say thieves have stolen the Italian ambassador's Alfa Romeo during a break-in at his residence in Chisinau.
Police spokeswoman Natalia Stati says a security camera showed a man breaking into the grounds of the residence of Ambassador Enrico Nunziata early Tuesday, smashing the car's front door window and driving away.
A window in the front door of the house was also broken but it was not immediately clear whether anything was taken from the house. Stati said nobody was at home at the time, and the property was not guarded.
Stati said the residence would normally be guarded. Moldovan officials responsible for guarding the building were not available for comment.
The perpetrator risks a prison sentence of up to 12 years if caught and convicted.
