CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — Southwest Idaho authorities say a man shot by police over the weekend in Homedale pulled a gun and fired. Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue said Gilbert Heredia was in critical condition at a hospital following the exchange of gunfire with police at about 3 p.m. Saturday.

MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho (AP) — A 38-year-old man police say shot a Mountain Home Air Force Base airman at a laundry in southern Idaho has pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with the use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony. The Idaho Statesman reports that Lajuan Lee made the plea earlier this month in 4th District Court.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise officials gave a break to more than 150 people parked illegally on Christmas Eve. Instead of tickets, they left warnings accompanied by candy bars. The Idaho Statesman reports city officials say they wanted to educate people about a new app that can be used to pay for the parking meters.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The top story in Idaho for 2015 was the long wildfire season. The season lasted two months longer than normal, scorched six times the number of acres compared to the 20-year average, and put Idaho taxpayers on the hook for $60 million in firefighting costs.
