GARLAND, Texas (AP) — After a weekend of deadly weather, residents in the Dallas area are working to salvage what they can. The American Red Cross is distributing items like tarps, rakes and work gloves to help them. At least 11 people died and dozens were injured in the tornadoes that swept through on Saturday.
UNDATED (AP) — The storm system that wreaked havoc in Texas has brought heavy snow, ice and blustery winds to several states in the nation's midsection, as well as heavy rain in already-soaked areas. More than 2,100 flights across the U.S. were canceled today — more than half of them at Chicago's two main airports.
CLEVELAND (AP) — A grand jury in Cleveland has declined to indict a white police officer in the killing of a 12-year-old black boy who was shot while playing with what turned out to be a pellet gun. The family of Tamir Rice condemned the decision but urged those who are disappointed to express themselves "peacefully and democratically."
CHICAGO (AP) — The father of one of two people fatally shot by Chicago police is suing the city. A lawyer filed the wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of Antonio LeGrier, whose son, Quintonio, was killed along with a 55-year-old neighbor, Bettie Jones. The lawsuit says Quintonio LeGrier never had a weapon and did nothing to suggest he was a threat before police opened fire.
NEW YORK (AP) — Whole Foods says it will pay New York City $500,000 to settle allegations it overcharged customers for prepackaged foods. The city says Whole Foods Market Inc. will conduct quarterly audits to ensure products are accurately weighed and labeled. Officials say the overcharging included $4.85 for a package of chicken tenders and $14.84 for coconut shrimp.
