LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say two people are dead after the car they were in jumped a sidewalk and then crashed into street lights.
Police say the incident took place Saturday around 11:20 p.m. on Charleston Boulevard at Mohawk Street.
According to investigators, a Hyundai was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver somehow lost control.
The vehicle hit a curb, drove up onto the sidewalk and then hit two street light poles.
The car came to a rest in the roadway, straddling the median.
Emergency responders went to the scene but pronounced the 31-year-old male driver and a 27-year-old male passenger dead.
Their names have not been released.
The incident brings the number of traffic-related fatalities in Las Vegas this year to 123.
