LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — Idaho officials say changing the rear lights on snowplows from flashing yellow to flashing red has resulted in fewer mishaps by motorists approaching the road-clearing machines from behind. An Idaho Transportation Department spokesman tells The Lewiston Tribune that too many people ignored flashing yellow lights and sometimes collided with snowplows. The change in color took place three years ago.
HAYDEN, Idaho (AP) — The Kootenai Electric Cooperative will be using helicopters to help restore power in Northern Idaho. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports the utility will use two helicopters to help clear snow off power lines. Company officials say this process, called "buzzing the lines."
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho forestry officials are warning landowners that trees damaged by recent wind storms will be more susceptible to infestations of some bark beetles next spring. The Coeur D'Alene Press reports trees uprooted or broken in the storms in north Idaho and the Spokane area can become infested by bark beetles once the weather warms up again and then they will likely spread to healthier trees. Forest health officials at the Idaho Department of Lands recommend removing damaged trees and burning, chipping or removing branches from the property.
EAGLE, Idaho (AP) — A Boise resident and his group Love Travels are working to bring hope to people in the country where he lived in a refugee camp. KTVB-TV reports Ethiopian refugee Tecle Gebremichael traveled to the same camp where he lived for eight years, bringing 500 purple and gold jerseys that had been donated from Eagle Middle School. He said Love Travels was formed about three years ago to help encourage other refugees.
