PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) — A Princeton University professor is among the latest recipients of the National Medal of Science.
Simon Levin and eight others will formally receive the honor at a White House ceremony early next year. It recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to science and engineering.
Levin is the George M. Moffett Professor of Biology at the Ivy League school, serving in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
His principal interests are in understanding how macroscopic patterns and processes are maintained at the level of ecosystems and the biosphere, in terms of ecological and evolutionary mechanisms that operate primarily at the level of the organisms.
The White House announced the names of the award winners on Tuesday.
