NEW YORK (AP) — Two slain New York City police officers are being honored by their comrades. Hundreds of NYPD officers in dress uniform turned out today for a special ceremony. Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were shot to death in their cruiser a year ago. Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton dedicated a plaque to them at Brooklyn's 84th Precinct.
TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — Police say a man who had been taken to a hospital after attacking two officers is dead after being shot to death by a Los Angeles officer in the emergency room. Authorities say he was shot after he swung a metal stool and grabbed for an officer's gun. The suspect died Saturday afternoon. He was the 20th person killed by police this year.
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say they found five bodies among the wreckage of a small plane that crashed in central California. The Kern County sheriff's office says the people haven't been identified. The debris was found in an orchard southwest of Bakersfield last night. The plane was flying from San Jose to Las Vegas. It sent a mayday call before dropping off radar.
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Officials say a device made to look like a bomb forced an Air France passenger jet to make an emergency landing in Kenya's coastal city of Mombasa on Sunday. The homemade apparatus was discovered around midnight hidden in a lavatory cabinet where it was likely placed during the approximately 11-hour flight to Paris from the island of Mauritius.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — It's a real blockbuster. Studio estimates today say "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" brought in $238 million for The Walt Disney Co. over the weekend, making it the biggest North American debut of all time. The earnings destroy the previous opening record set by "Jurassic World," which drew $208.8 million this summer.
