SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say they are conducting a sexual misconduct investigation involving a police officer in Harrisville in Weber County. The Standard-Examiner reports that Police Chief Maxwell Jackson said yesterday that the officer was placed on leave after investigators opened a criminal investigation into the allegations. Ogden police are conducting the investigation.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court says it will decide whether a person with multiple domestic violence convictions in tribal court should be subject to harsher punishments for habitual offenders. The appeal stems from an appeals court ruling from a Montana case that was contrary to separate circuit court decisions on cases in Utah and North Dakota.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah state attorneys say it cost $400,000 to settle a suit filed against prison officials after an inmate died when he didn't get dialysis for two days. The Utah Attorney General's Office released the amount of the settlement in response to a public records request. Ramon C. Estrada died on April 5, after two technicians switched shifts and no one showed up to give him treatment.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A new audit shows police have drastically reduced accessing a database of Utah prescription drug users in the wake of a new law requiring authorities to get a search warrant. The report from the legislative auditor's office shows police searched the database on average of 238 times a month from May 2014 until the new law took effect in May 2015.
