SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — FBI and local divers are combing a lake at a park in San Bernardino, California. The head of the agency's Los Angeles office says leads indicate that the man and woman who carried out a mass killing at a social service center were seen at the park on the day of the attack. The official will only say that the search is for any evidence that may be related to the investigation.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An all-white jury in Oklahoma City has recommended that a former police officer it convicted of sexually assaulting eight women on his police beat serve a total of 263 years. Thirteen women, all of them black, said they were victimized in the low-income neighborhood that Daniel Holtzclaw patrolled. A judge will decide whether he will have to serve the sentences consecutively.
JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — An armed man drove onto Arkansas State University Thursday, sparking a campus lockdown before police took him into custody without any shots fired. A university spokesman says the man was taken into custody about an hour after the incident began. The campus lockdown has been lifted and activities will resume on Friday.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has signed a sweeping overhaul of the No Child Left Behind education law. Obama praised the George W. Bush-era law for having the right goals. But the president said that in practice, it fell short or applied a cookie-cutter approach that failed to produce desired results.
DALLAS (AP) — The three largest U.S. airlines are banning hoverboards because of the potential fire danger from the lithium-ion batteries that power the devices. Hoverboards are motorized, two-wheel, skateboard-sized scooters that users stand on. Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines said Thursday they are banning hoverboards in checked or carry-on luggage. JetBlue Airways has already prohibited them.
