WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) — Students at Brandeis University have ended a 12-day sit-in at the Massachusetts school following the release of a detailed plan by university officials to address their demands regarding diversity on campus.
The Boston Globe reports (http://bit.ly/21uHYpo ) students began the protest on Nov. 20 and remained in the Bernstein-Marcus Administrative Center, which houses the office of interim president Lisa Lynch, until Tuesday afternoon.
Protesters say they are satisfied with the administration's diversity plan, which will aim to attract students and faculty from "historically underrepresented groups" and pledges to launch faculty workshops to discuss race and inequality in the classroom.
Lynch says in addition to the plan she is looking forward to continued conversations about diversity on the school's Waltham campus. She says academic excellence depends on having a diverse community.
