Brazilian officials who had promised to clean things up in time for the games now acknowledge that won't happen.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Environmental advocates will try to persuade the Utah Supreme Court on Wednesday that the state's approval of an oil refinery expansion would add to air quality woes in northern Utah. CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois' attorney general is asking the U.S. Justice Department to investigate whether the Chicago Police Department's practices violate federal and constitutional law. JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Police in Alaska's capital city have not determined whether the city's new mayor died of natural causes or foul play. Authorities are awaiting autopsy results.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel is preparing to posthumously honor a U.S. serviceman who refused German orders to single out Jewish Americans at a POW camp in 1945. Master Sgt.
