SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A judge is expected to consider whether a West Jordan man accused of kidnapping and killing a 6-year-old girl is mentally competent to stand trial. Judge Douglas Hogan is set to weigh the results of new psychiatric tests at a hearing today for 44-year-old Terry Lee Black. Black is accused of kidnapping and raping Sierra Newbold before throwing her in a canal where she drowned in 2012.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say they have not given up on solving the 2010 stabbing death of a bookstore owner who is the mother-in-law of a Utah Jazz executive. South Salt Lake Police said yesterday in a news release that they continue to search for the person who fatally stabbed Sherry Black. Black is the mother-in-law of Greg Miller, the former CEO of the company that owns the Utah Jazz.
ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Southern Utah's Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks attracted a record number of visitors in 2015, besting the records they set just last year. The St. George Spectrum reports that the Park Service says Zion had over 3.37 million visitors through October, exceeding the total for all of 2014. Bryce tied its record by September, when it hit 1.5 million visitors.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Stephen Curry scored 26 points and the Golden State Warriors held on for their NBA-record 19th consecutive win to start the season after a 106-103 victory over the Utah Jazz last night. With the game tied at 101 with 51 seconds left, Curry hit a 3-pointer. Rodney Hood then scored bring the Jazz within one. After Curry missed a 3-pointer, Utah had a chance to take the lead, but Hood missed a 3 with five seconds left. Gordon Hayward led the Jazz with 24 points.
