COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A judge has sealed court documents for a man accused of killing three people, including a police officer, at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs. The move came at the request of prosecutors. It seals the arrest warrant for Robert Dear and the search warrant for his home. Prosecutors said making them public would jeopardize the ongoing investigation.

BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi man who's accused in the shooting death of a Waffle House server after she told him not to smoke has made his first court appearance, and asked about the death penalty. The Sun Herald reports Johnny Mount asked Judge Albert Fountain today whether the death penalty would be involved in his case. The judge told Mount that he faces only one count of first-degree murder and not a capital offense. Mount is charged in the slaying of Julie Brightwell. He is being held on a $2 million bond.

CHICAGO (AP) — Federal authorities say a suspect is in custody related to a threat at the University of Chicago. The threat led to the school canceling all classes and activities scheduled for today on its main campus. The normally bustling campus has been largely quiet today.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas is threatening to take legal action against an agency that settles refugees in the United States. It's because the agency plans to defy Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott by continuing to accept Syrian refugees. A state official says the International Rescue Committee hasn't cooperated with a directive to relocate Syrians somewhere other than Texas. More than two dozen governors have vowed to block efforts to resettle Syrians -- even though the Obama administration has told them that they don't have the legal authority to do so.

PARIS (AP) — Leaders of small island nations are pleading for their survival at the international climate summit near Paris. They're asking bigger countries to do more to cut emissions and help threatened nations cope with rising seas and wilder storms that are blamed on global warming. The prime minister of the pacific country of Tuvalu warned that "any further temperature increase" will lead to the "total demise" of his country.
