COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Police in Colorado Springs have responded to a report of an active shooter at a Planned Parenthood clinic. They say the situation has not been stabilized. Ambulances and police vehicles are lined up around an intersection near the clinic. Police are telling people to stay away from the area. They say people inside a nearby shopping center have been told to shelter in place.
CHICAGO (AP) — Hundreds of protesters have been blocking entrances to stores in Chicago's high-end shopping district on Black Friday to draw attention to the police shooting of a black teenager. Some of the demonstrators linked arms to form human chains in front of main entrances to stores on both sides of Michigan Avenue for more than three blocks. But others taking part in the protest chose a less confrontational approach. A group led by the Rev. Jess Jackson paused for a moment of silence to remember 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, who was shot 16 times by a Chicago police officer last year.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A Connecticut man accused of scaling the White House fence while President Barack Obama celebrated Thanksgiving with his family has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Joseph Caputo made his initial appearance this afternoon in Washington. He didn't enter a plea. Caputo is charged with unlawful entry. The Secret Service says he jumped over the fence onto the North Lawn of the White House, prompting a lockdown.
DENVER (AP) — With more stores opening on Thanksgiving night to give bargain-hunters a head start, the Black Friday crowds haven't been as large. At a Kmart in Denver this morning, shopper Susan Montoya had nearly the entire store to herself -- and complained that there was "no challenge" this year. A shopper at a Macy's in Kansas City also found the crowds lighter than in past years, when she says Black Friday meant "getting out at the crack of dawn" to get the best deals.
BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — Police in Biloxi, Miss., say they have arrested a man who shot and killed a woman at a Waffle House restaurant after she asked him not to smoke. Police say the customer, identified as Johnny Mount, had argued with an employee early today about smoking a cigarette. They say he then pulled out a handgun and shot the employee once in the head. She died on the way to the hospital. Mount was outside the restaurant when police arrived and surrendered without incident. He's been charged with first-degree murder.
