COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — A library science program at the University of Missouri has regained accreditation.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1PS0ns8 ) that the American Library Association has reinstated its accreditation of the University of Missouri's library science master's program for the next seven years.
The association withdrew the program's accreditation in June. But the university appealed.
Kathyrn Chval, acting dean of the College of Education, said Wednesday that the withdrawal of the accreditation wasn't about the quality of the program. She says the issue was largely because of miscommunication about the structure of the program and the university's use of data to improve the program.
The library program is the only ALA-accredited library science program in the state. The ALA's accreditation standards examine a program's planning, curriculum, faculty, students, administration, finances and resources.
