UNDATED (AP) — People are pulling out their shovels and firing up snowblowers across parts of Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. The first significant snowstorm of the season is creating hazardous travel conditions and hundreds of flight delays. About 7 inches of snow has fallen at Chicago's O'Hare airport, where some 250 flights have been canceled. The southern Wisconsin town of Janesville is reporting as much as 20 inches of snow.
UNDATED (AP) — Snow in the upper Midwest is making travel difficult for a number of college football teams. South Dakota State's Jackrabbits were delayed for 10 hours in the Sioux Falls airport yesterday on the way to play Western Illinois. When they finally got off the plane in Peoria, Illinois, their bus got stuck on a highway because of an accident, forcing a delay in the start of the game. Weather also delayed South Dakota's trip to Illinois State and Sioux Falls' trek to Arkansas for a playoff game against Henderson State.
MARICOPA, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say one person is dead and another has been seriously injured in a tandem skydiving jump in Arizona. Maricopa fire officials say one person was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person was airlifted to a hospital.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Protesters camping outside a Minneapolis police station are vowing to maintain their vigil over the death of a black man who was shot by police. They say they won't move until video recordings of the encounter are released and authorities change how they interact with communities they serve. People who say they were at the scene have said Jamar Clark was handcuffed when he was shot, but police have disputed that.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Brown University says it plans to spend $100 million over the next decade to address diversity and racism on the campus. University President Christina Paxson unveiled the 19-page draft action plan and thanked students who have called attention in recent months to issues of injustice at the Ivy League school.
