CLINTON, Miss. (AP) — The only Democrat in Mississippi's congressional delegation will speak next month at the Mississippi College commencement for graduate students.
U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson has a personal connection to the ceremony. His daughter, BendaLonne Jamir Thompson-Griffith, will receive her doctorate in education leadership.
She is an educational specialist with Jackson Public Schools.
Thompson was mayor of Bolton and a Hinds County supervisor before winning a 1993 special election to fill a vacant congressional seat. He is the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee.
Mississippi College says more than 270 students will receive graduate or law school diplomas during the Dec. 18 commencement in the A.E. Wood Coliseum on the Clinton campus.
