BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP) — Southern Maine Community College is formally commemorating its campus at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station.

This fall marked the completion of the Midcoast Campus at Brunswick Landing — with newly renovated grounds, new Orion Residence Hall and L.L. Bean Learning Commons and Health Science Center.

The campus opened in the fall of 2011 with 79 students. This fall it welcomed nearly 600 students.

Southern Maine Community College President Ron Cantor will speak at the event on Thursday. Business and community leaders, state lawmakers, and students are also participating.

Founded in 1946, Southern Maine Community College is the state's oldest and largest community college. The main campus is in South Portland, overlooking Casco Bay.
