RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Washoe County Health District is offering $1,000 for old stoves in an effort to reduce air pollution.

KOLO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1j7RGeU ) that the Air Quality District has launched a change-out program that offers money toward new stoves for old models. New stoves can cost anywhere between $2,000 and $5,000.

Air Quality Management Chief Daniel Inouye says as temperatures drop, residents are lighting wood or pellet stoves, which can make air quality fluctuate. He says the stove make about 1/3 or ½ of the pollution in the valley during the winter.
