GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) — A former South Point High School teacher has been charged with a sex offense involving a student.
Multiple media outlets report 45-year-old Teika Watkins Helton was arrested Monday. She is charged with one count of sexual activity between school personnel and a student.
Gaston County Police Sgt. Steve Dover says the alleged incident occurred sometime in May. Police say the student was a senior at the time.
Officials say Helton resigned from her position at the high school in October.
Helton was released on bond. It isn't immediately clear if she has an attorney.
